Close Range: Wyoming Stories Annie Proulx

That last title contains the short story which was the basis for Brokeback Mountain. A book like this causes its reader to thank God, unironically and humbly, for allowing her to come across it. Annie Proulx, author of the short story Brokeback Mountain which originally appeared in the collection Close Range: Wyoming Stories, also won the Pulitzer for her novel Shipping News. I ordered a hardback edition of Close Range: Wyoming Stories, a collection of short stories, including Brokeback Mountain from Alibris online. Two of her works have been turned into films. She then expanded Brokeback Mountain and put it in Close Range: Wyoming Stories, her 1999 short-story collection. Close Range, by Annie Proulx is the collection of short stories best known for Brokeback Mountain, but whilst that is by far the best story in the colection the rest is full of other gems too. A few lucky accidents brought Close Range into my hands. All of Annie Proulx's works pack a hell of a punch in a short space of time. It is a beautiful novel, and I can't wait to get my hands on Proulx's other work: Postcards, and Close Range: Wyoming Stories. I'll let y'all know how I feel once I've read it. Proulx has also published several books of short stories including Close Range: Wyoming Stories, Heart Songs, Bad Dirt and Fine Just the Way It Is: Wyoming Stories 3.
